Sub-Irrigation Systems

Flood Floors

Most commonly used in a facility with no aisles, leaving the entire area for plants. Floor heat is installed to provide rapid drying of the floor surface when the water is drained and to provide an ideal rootzone temperature. The finished floor slopes about ½ to ¾ inch from the post line to the center of the bay. A quick responding irrigation cycle time is critical to greater control of nutrient uptake and prevents oversoaking.

Cascade Floor

BioTherm’s Cascade Floor irrigation systems create a thin sheet of water that flows evenly down an imperceptible slope from ridge to drain, uniformly distributing moisture for a homogenous crop. Our Flood Floor and Cascade Floor systems save water, energy, fertilizer and reduce labor costs by up to 95%

Benefits of Flood & Cascade Floors

Uniform watering of all containers

Irrigating the root zone with water and fertilizer ensures the plant is getting everything it needs in one cycle. No over or under-watering here!

Water & fertilizer usage decrease at least 50%

By controlling the irrigation cycle within a zone, you’re able to reduce the amount of water and fertilizer used. Both can also be recycled.

Labor input is reduced

The system runs off the environmental control, so no need to hand water anymore.

How our Sub-Irrigation Systems Work

Sub-irrigation systems efficiently water plants from below, utilizing a water reservoir to deliver moisture directly to the roots. This method ensures even distribution, reduces water waste, and minimizes evaporation. Plants draw water as needed, promoting healthier growth and reducing the risk of overwatering.

Water is pumped onto the floor of the greenhouse and allowed to remain for a specified period, usually until the plants have absorbed enough moisture. The water is then drained away, often to be recycled and used again

Flood floors are suitable for a wide range of plants, especially those that benefit from consistent moisture levels. Common examples include ornamental plants, vegetables, and certain types of herbs.

Yes, nutrient solutions can be added to the water, allowing for efficient fertilization as well as irrigation. This method ensures that plants receive both water and nutrients directly to their root zones.

Yes! Our in-slab heating systems can be a part of the flood floor design.
